Min Su (Ian) Lee

My last job prior to coming to the States was an English teacher for an academy. I had a class of my own composed of students from elementary school to high school, and my class was a speaking class. I didn't have an assistant teacher, so I was the one soley in charge of handling the class. It was challenging because I had to make a new schedule every week for all my students so that no one would be left behind and sometimes kids would do things that are beyond my control. This enabled me to raise the ability of schedule management and also to keep calm in different kinds of situations. I strongly believe this would be a big help if I become a dispatcher for HAA since I would surely be faced with unexpected situations that needs calmness, and the main job of a dispatcher is to manage all the schedules of each and everyone.

I have experienced working as a student librarian in my university. My job was to manage new and old books, receive phone inquiries, and was in charge of the whole "lending and returning books" procedure. Phone inquiries at first was quite tough since it is clearly harder to convey my statement through a phone call compared to saying it in person. But as I gained experience, I was able to gain the skills of communicating well even through a phone call. I think that this could help me if I would work as a dispatcher considering that the job gets a lot of inquiry phone calls.

After finishing my military service, I was able to get a part time job as a barista in two cafes, Suni Coffee in Goyang City, and Mint Heim, located in Seoul. My main job for both cafes was to make coffees and desserts, but since I was the only working person in my respected time, I was in charge of managing the whole store. Through this job, I was able to cultivate a service mind in me, and I was also able to learn how to deal with many different types of customers. I believe that this would be a great help for me while working as a dispatcher, since I would have to deal with different CFIs, students, and people from outside everyday.

I was part of a project of opening a professional educational institution for pilots seeking for jobs in airlines which was named the "Edu pilot". My job was to translate Korean-based documents in English and make study materials regarding ATC. This was a very challenging job because I needed a lot of professional knowledge regarding aviation since the academy was meant for pilots who already attained their commercial license and has a lot of aviation background. The aviation knowledge I gained though this job helped me a lot through my academic studies and also in keeping my English proficiency. I also think that the aviation knowledge I gained could help me if I would be a dispatcher for HAA since the job requires basic aeronautical knowledge.

My first job experience was an assistant teacher for an academy specialized in English teaching. My main job was to assist one teacher by helping her make powerpoints for her classes and following her up with the progress of her students. Also, I was in charge of giving out and grading homeworks of students and consult with parents about how their children are doing. Through this work, I was able to learn a very important trait that I still keep to this date which was "responsibility". Although I myself was at a very young age, looking at the children who were younger than me made me feel that this job was something I should not just perceive as a money making opportunity but something I should take seriously and take care of these children's studies to help them progress further.
