Board certified, dynamic ophthalmologist with extensive experience in dropless cataract surgery. Proven ability to establish new departments and train staff, demonstrating leadership and adaptability. Skilled in cataract surgery, oculoplastic procedures, and proficient in intravitreal injections, committed to delivering exceptional patient care in any setting.
I lead the hospital in their endeavor to establish a new ophthalmology department. The entire structure of the clinic and operating room were based on my years of surgical and clinical experience. This Included selecting all needed equipment, for the office and operating room, medications, scheduling and staffing. I trained ophthalmic technicians who had no prior experience.
I perform on average 12 cataract surgeries every week. I dedicate one day a month for approximately 8 oculoplastic cases.
One third of the clinic is focused on serving medical retina patients. I have performed numerous fluorescein angiographies myself because experienced technicians are not available in my current rural location. I have many years of experience with intravitreal injections including Avastin, Lucentis, Eylea, Triessence, Vabysmo, Izervay, and Syfovre.
I was hired as a locums physician to help Altru Health Systems in Grand Forks, ND. I performed general opthalmology in the clinic with an emphasis on medical retina. I also provided ER coverage. I performed this job during the interim months between Avera in Marshall, MN while starting a new clinic for Scheurer Health System in Pigeon, MI.
I provided a broad range of general ophthalmology care with an emphasis on cataract surgery, medical retina and oculoplastics. I was one of two ophthalmologists in the area. The nearest metropolitan hospitals were approximately 2hrs away. It was gratifying to provide care for patients with limited geographic access and where harsh winter conditions made travel difficult.
I worked for Barton Associates as a locums ophthalmologist for one year. I was placed in Marshall, MN. The hospital system Avera hired me permanently.
I provided general opthalmology care in rural areas of New Hampshire and Vermont. I was hired by a physician in private practice. Unfortunately, he lost his Vermont license due to back taxes. One practice location was closed. His impending divorce impacted the practices financially.
Following residency, I started a private practice in McAlester, OK. A scholarship obligation required I serve a population comprised of 25% Native Americans. I learned all aspects of coding, managing an office, and treating very ill patients with ocular pathology. I also practiced in Tulsa, OK. This early experience of caring for patients in a metropolitan area and a rural location formed the foundation for the rest of my career. It was a unique experience, and I am grateful for knowledge I gained.
