Completed a Capstone Project at Rutgers University titled Screening for Obstructive Sleep Apnea in a Primary Care Setting using the STOP-Bang tool. The STOP-Bang tool was identified as the evidence-based screening tool with the highest sensitivity and specificity to help identify individuals at risk to develop obstructive sleep apnea.
The purpose of this quality improvement project was to help exemplify the need of implementing an evidence-based screening tool in a primary care setting to help identify individuals who are likely to develop obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Out of the 100 subjects, 57% of the population scored positive as either intermediate risk or high risk, based on the STOP-Bang Tool. This quality improvement study empirically identified individuals who were likely to have OSA and subsequently provided a strong base to confirm OSA with a polysomnography study. On August 14, 2017, I was awarded by the American Health Counsel as one of top nurses in the State of New Jersey for exemplary achievement, dedication, and contributions to the Healthcare Industry.
