Misael Covarrubias

Assigned as a patrol corporal serving as the intermediary between the watch commander and patrol officers. I assisted the watch commander with leading patrol operations, critical incidents, and officer accountability and mentoring. I have also served as an acting Watch Commander during supervisory absence.

• Supervised daily operations of patrol units, ensuring adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
• Conducted thorough investigations on incidents, compiling detailed reports for legal proceedings.

Trained and developed over 30 police recruits through the South Bay Regional Basic Police Academy. I graded assignments, facilitated in training, enforced academy standards, corrected deficient performance, and held weekly counselings to mentor recruits. I also generated an 18 page document to assist recruits with their preparation for the Field Training Program.

• Conducted thorough investigations, gathering evidence to solve cases effectively.

• Trained other detectives and patrol officers on investigative techniques and case management protocols.
• Investigated homicide, robbery, sexual assault, and fraud including complex property crimes.

• Served as the acting Watch Commander from the start of the promotion in September 2019 through the entirety of the shift ending in March 2020 despite having no prior supervisory experience.
• Trained numerous officers in the Field Training Program when not serving in an acting supervisory role.
• Maintained exceptional patrol standards with regard to case management, statistics, and work product despite taking on two new responsibilities in training and management.

• Enforced local laws and ordinances to maintain community safety and order.

• Combat deployment to Sangin, Afghanistan supporting casualty evacuation operations and facilitated combat training for the Afghan National Army.
• Provided crucial first aid treatment during medical emergencies, preserving the health of Afghan civilians and soldiers on the battlefield or during training evolutions.
• Contributed to mission success by providing timely intelligence analysis and recommendations to command staff.
• Developed junior Marines into future leaders through consistent mentorship and professional development opportunities.
