Governess/Family Life Coach/Jedi Sleep Master/Tutor

The Z Family
04.2016 - 03.2017
  • Working with 3 children; ages 9, 7, and 5. I was initially brought in as a Child Specialist and Consultant to help the family with: lack of structure, unruly behavior from all three, sibling rivalry and fighting, sleep training, and to address the children's inability to be flexible and adaptive in nature. Within a matter of days, I implemented the following big/supportive changes into the Z Family:
  • Taught the kids what 'Ego' means and introduced them to the concept of being: Trusting, Responsive, Present, Thinking in Solutions, Choosing Happiness, among many others. They have since learned to recognize these traits in both themselves and others
  • Turned their "Doing" Rewards chart into a "Being" Choice chart with all the character traits I'm teaching them
  • Helped to create kid friendly planners with weekly schedules for all 3
  • Assisted with piano lessons, tutoring, homework help, and any needed tasks around the house
  • Helped teach the kids how to ask for Support when they need it instead of retaliating
  • Sleep Trained their 9 year old - who had a very hard time going to sleep, with many wake-ups in the middle of the night. Together, we painted and rearranged his room to create a new energy in there, and added a few tools to help him. I created a bedtime "Mantra" for him to help calm him of his anxieties. To this day, he remains able to go to bed more calmly and is continuing to sleep through the night
  • Implemented a proactive 1/2/3 counting system for when the children need support in transitions or staying present and on task
  • I continue to work with the Mr and Mrscoaching them, empowering them and equipping them with tools, strategies, and effective ways to communicate to maintain continuity in my absence
  • Helped develop the family's schedule to maintain household order and flow
  • Organized activities that enhanced their physical, emotional and social well-being
  • Coordinated and safely transported children to and from school, medical appointments, play dates and extra-curricular activities
  • Made healthy snacks and meals for the children and/or entire household as needed. Keeping in mind dietary restrictions and preferences
  • Stayed current on toy and child-related recalls and safety warnings
  • Identified warning signs of emotional and developmental problems and worked with the child's school and parents to enhance effectiveness on both the school and home fronts
  • Engaged with children on an individual basis to build positive relationships with them
  • Since implementing an initial "Miss Megan Effect Intensive", my role evolved into a more regular basis + light travel with the family. I bring conscious present energy, happiness, spontaneity, balance and a creative edge to the Z Family. However, school will soon be out for the summer, during which 2 children will be in all day camp and one in sleep away camp and also, this family is also moving upstate during summerso my services will not be needed

Volunteer Experience

My Legacy Project (done with my leadership team); September 2010
  • During this 10 day Leadership Challenge, my leadership team (of 10 NYC professionals) and I raised over $5,000 in donations and contributions by creating a variety of events such as auctions, benefit evenings, etc. We used the paint, supplies, money's, etc. to re-model a Domestic Violence Shelter for women and children in the Bronx, New York! Keep in mind that the 10 day stretch included: raising the money AND completing the entire renovation! As the Leadership Challenge coordinator, I sourced this particular shelter through Safe Horizons
Personal Secretary to the Bishop; 6-30-2010 to 7-5-2010; Kelowna B.C., Canada
  • I was personally requested to assist Bishop Eusebius Thirumeni, at the 2010 North West Regional Family Conference, as his personal assistant/secretary. I supported him and the conference as communications liaison and created a full report and overview of the conference for him. I was also the conference photographer. Lastly, I conducted a seminar on acknowledgment and appreciation and how to use these tools to create peace and respect in relationships. There were more than 500 attendees at this conference
