Work History
Military Consultant
American Wool Council, a Division of the American Sheep Industry Association
03.2002 - Current
Developed and implemented educational programs for stakeholders in the wool supply chain. I planned and executed numerous ranch and mill tours that included educational seminars for military and DOD personnel. AWC is regularly asked to host new tours.
Analyzed market trends to identify opportunities for growth within the wool sector. Identified the need for 'superwash' shrink treatment in the US and subsequently coordinated and supervised the purchase and installation of the needed equipment.
Program manager for several Research and Development contracts with DOD that resulted in numerous new wool based products for the US military. In total these contracts total over $4M.
Collaborated with industry leaders to drive advocacy efforts for wool production policies.
Facilitated workshops to enhance knowledge of wool product benefits among consumers and retailers. When in person meetings were not possible during covid I coordinated Zoom and Teams meetings so that development work could continue. This included a Teams based seminar series for the US Army that carried continuing education credits for the attendees. Over 50 Army personnel completed the course.
Managed stakeholder relationships to foster partnerships that support the American Wool Council's mission.
Liaised with customers, management, and sales team to better understand customer needs and recommend appropriate solutions. In many cases I am the 'match maker' between potential wool users and industry.
Delivered high-quality presentations to stakeholders, effectively communicating project objectives and results. Regular speaker at Wool Council meetings and annual wool meetings.
Facilitated workshops and training sessions for client staff, enhancing their skills and knowledge in key areas. When needed, traveled to US Army facilities to present wool education to potential users. One such presentation resulted in major research and development contract for ASI.
Delivered comprehensive reports and presentations to stakeholders, providing insights and actionable recommendations for business improvement. One of the Research and Development contracts required a comprehensive report at its end. The report was over 150 pages long and has been published. Continually updating the wool industry as to the importance of the Berry Amendment that guarantees the use of American wool in all DOD clothing items.
