● Booking Officer duties to include booking and releasing offenders, communication with persons of diverse backgrounds, ensuring all legal/court documents are organized and accurate for District and Superior Court, consistent communication with Magistrate, Deputies, Parole/Probation, Criminal Investigation Division, court house, counties throughout the state, bail bondsmans, offenders family members, and community resources. Answering a multi-line telephone system, knowledge of the court system and legal terminology, conducting video court, interpreting and entering offenders charges into Jail Management System (JMS).
● Conduct regular cell check rounds to ensure safety and security, monitoring of detention facility cameras, ensuring all of the detention center rules are followed by offenders and visitors, determining and initiating disciplinary action for offender misconduct during incarceration period, physically detaining/restraining violent offenders, calmly handling high stress situations and medical emergencies.
● Transportation of offenders throughout the detention facility, to the courthouse for court/trial, other counties in which they have charges, and to the Department of Corrections.
● Established and maintained effective working relationship with law enforcement and officials of related agencies, consistently fulfilling my duty to ensure total confidentiality by maintaining a need to know basis, respecting the offender's circumstances, ensuring conversations are held in a private area, correct privacy cover sheets are placed on files/documents, and ensuring HIPAA guidelines are followed.
● Proficient in Microsoft 365, Adobe Professional, typing skills, effective planning, prioritizing tasks, attention to detail, and organization to include maintaining correct logs, legal trackers, and all legal files.
● Attending training and meetings requested or required by the Sheriff’s Office, staying up to date on training, policy, and North Carolina laws, maintaining and logging use of Sheriff Office vehicles, maintaining issued equipment, and ensuring good radio/communication etiquette.
● Support and mentoring fellow detention officers to ensure that everyone is confident and competent in their duties, providing leadership and working as a team to fulfill job responsibilities, upholding/maintaining respect and integrity for fellow detention officers, and the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
● Trained and regularly mentored associates on performance-orientated strategies and customer service techniques.
● Resolved customer complaints while prioritizing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
● Maintained and processed invoices, deposits, and money logs.
● Performed inventory control, such as counting, and stocking merchandise.
