I was a post-graduate trainee in the Internal medicine residency program (IMRP) at HMC, an ACGME-I accredited program.
HMC is the primary and largest healthcare institution in the state of Qatar. As HMC provides medical services for most of the population in Qatar, the high rate of exposure to a wide variety of patients broadened my medical knowledge and experience in diagnosing and treating medical patients. My
main roles and responsibilities are to :
- Provide competent and compassionate medical care in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Provide education and counseling, including disease process and discharge plan.
- Supervise my junior colleagues and medical students.
IMRP at HMC offers an excellent educational environment and encourages residents to participate in academic research, quality projects, grand rounds,
journal clubs, and conferences.
It is also worth mentioning that many courses are incorporated in the training ( BLS, ACLS, FCCS, POC-US, communication skills, etc.)
My main role was to admit patients to the medical floor, respond to patients' medical and health problems by referring to their history, and carrying out
the appropriate investigations, deliver the treatment after discussion with the patient and the attending physicians and contribute to the delivery of
patient services with nurses, technicians, and other medical staff.
My duty was also to collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results, and accommodate
rotating shifts and flexible work schedules.
I had the opportunity to cover with the attending physician in the outpatient clinic, which helped me improve my medical knowledge and
communication skills in dealing with patients with chronic medical diseases.
I have completed a one-year internship program in one of the largest private hospitals in Jordan, under the supervision of various highly qualified
surgeons and physicians. During this period, I learned basic training in patient management, ethics, and medical practice in departments of medicine, pediatrics, and surgery.
This year, I focused on improving my skills by taking a complete history, performing a thorough physical examination, formulating differential diagnoses and treatment plans, and presenting cases to the attending physician and medical team.
