Songs composed and performed by Molly Hilgenberg. I acknowledge and honor that the land on which I live and create belongs to the Anishinaabe and Ojibwe Nations.
As a musician, I am Sister Veery "Sister" is a nod to my Catholic upbringing, invoking devotion but also a reminder of our kinship with plants, animals, and mother earth "Veery" draws inspiration from the veery bird, whose haunting song echoes at dusk by Lake Superior in summer—capturing the feeling of transcendence and stillness I seek in my music
My compositions are a deeply personal act of healing They serve as a way for me to process the complexities of life, including mental health struggles, my long and traumatic journey to motherhood, the ongoing evolution of matrescence, grief and love, and an ongoing exploration of both the ordinary and non-ordinary worlds Through my music, I find solace and meaning, giving voice to our most tender emotions
My goal is to create music that resonates on a heartfelt level, fostering a connection to the natural world and to one another My work seeks to offer comfort during this time of chaos and uncertainty It is my belief that through shared stories and experiences, we can build a stronger community I actively collaborate with fellow women artists and professionals to bring these compositions to life, creating a space where our collective voices can be heard
Like many artists, I have struggled to find confidence in my craft while navigating the pressures of a capitalist society that often undervalues artistic labor As a new mother and a full-time mental health therapist, my creative work is deeply intertwined with my role in trauma recovery In both my music and my therapeutic practice, I strive to inspire reflection and reconnection—to the self and to the world around us
My current project is a full album release, along with a local performance to celebrate these songs and my growth as a singer, keyboardist, and songwriter This work marks a significant step in my solo work, as I aim to connect with local musicians to develop a band and bring these compositions to the stage
