Therapeutic Volunteer

Silver Rock Farms, Infinity Equine Therapy
Pearl River, NY
09.2015 - 12.2019
  • While taking riding lessons at Silver Rock Farm, before and after my lessons I assisted with the therapy program.
  • As a volunteer I would participate in a number or tasks.
  • Those tasks include horse handling and providing leg holds on either side of the horse for the rider's support.
  • I would also provide slight direction at times when directed to do so where I would relay some direction to the child riding.
  • For example, if the child riding was not sitting up straight that was my job to direct them to do so while the therapeutic instructor held the responsibilities for most instructions throughout the session.
  • In the past I have also had to pick out and gauge helmet sizes for children receiving lessons in said program.

Camp Counselor and Farm Hand

Silver Rock Farm's Summer Day Camp
Pearl River, NY
06.2016 - 08.2016
  • Arrived promptly at Silver Rock Farms, Monday through Friday at 8:30 in the morning to oversee trail rides, group lessons, and grooming for campers.
  • Counselors are tasked with horse handling and assisting instructors.
  • On trail rides each camper needed a horse handler, being one of my responsibilities.
  • Prioritizing contribution of quality assistance during weekly horse shows held for the parents to see their children's progress.
  • Counselors are meant to be supportive and offer guidance, shown through horse handling and basic direction.
  • Established strong connections with campers to encourage them to step outside their comfort zones and try new activities.
  • Facilitated timely attendance of campers at the scheduled lunchtime.
  • Provided hands-on instruction in grooming horses, picking hooves, and horse tacking for campers.
  • Some children know more than others, especially dependent on age.
