Help receptionist with phone calls and walk-ins

  • On walk-in days I help the receptionist greet incoming visitors and customers by answering questions, help with completing applications, or provide referrals for issues outside of CRLA services.
  • I help answer calls, while transferring them to appropriate individual and maintaining confidentiality of information regarding clients.
  • If there is an issue with clients/non clients, other support staff come to me for help. Using my critical and thinking skills, I do my best to deescalate the situation.

Support with Administrative Legal Secretary Training

Case Review

  • Once a week, our program meets with our Directing Attorney to go over cases, specifically new applicants.
  • Take notes for each new case, what is going on with the case, how the advocate is going to proceed with the case. Lending my support and help for any follow up documentations or tasks needed.
  • Add notes to cases on our LegalServer system to monitor what is happening on case.

Our Committee

  • We have our own Committee that gathers the first Wednesday of each month to discuss issues that need to be addressed in the community
  • Am in charge of arranging a speaker for the meeting, taking minutes, mailing copies of minutes and reminders, as well as making reminder calls to our members, and assuring they are paid for attendance.
  • Most importantly, making sure their needs and questions are answered.

Trust Account

  • I manage the Salinas Rural Justice Unit, formerly known as the Basic, Trust Account
  • When we receive a check for one of our clients addressed to CRLA (e.g. settlement check.) I am responsible for making sure the check gets deposited into our trust account and I arrange for Client to come in to pick up the check
  • I make sure to follow CRLA procedures when depositing checks and when the Client is picking up check
  • Each month, I work on our trust account report and submit all required documents to our Accounting Department.

Brex Card

  • Manage the Salinas Office primary company card, Brex Card
  • Make purchases for Salinas Staff supplies and needs.
  • Manage transactions and receipts responsibly to make sure reports are submitted in a timely manner.

  • I check the citing officer on the ticket. This helps me determine what day and time the Court Trial will be set for.
  • Once I gather the information of the Court Trial. I note it down on the Request for Court Trial form.
  • The defendant fills out the Request for Court Trial form.
  • I review the form to make sure it is correctly filled out and signed.

Submitting requests from Defendants

  • Defendants submit a letter of request and I submit it to the Commissioner of the Court.
  • The main request I receive is a request to reduce the amount of the fine.
  • I prepare Modification Request, which provides the commissioner with quick summary of the citation, and attach the defendants request.

Sentencing out cases

  • I am able to sentence out cases dealing with proof of corrections and bail forfeitures.
  • Proof of Corrections are citations that come in with a correctable offence. Examples are expired registrations, no insurance, driving without your drivers license in your possession.
  • Bail Forfeitures are citations where the defendant chooses to pay the fine and close out their case.
