Surgical Service Apprentice Course Phase I and II Technical or Occupational Certificate (Completed Dec 2007)

The certifications of Surgical Service Apprentice provides a knowledge and skills
necessary to perform sterile and non-sterile functions in the operating room when assisting the
surgeon as scrub specialist or assisting the nurse in performing circulating duties; includes basic

knowledge and techniques for preparing and processing sterile supplies and equipment, and in
providing nursing care for patients in preparation for surgery, during surgery, and immediately
after surgery in the post-anesthesia phase. It also provides students with supervised clinical
experience prior to the awarding of the job identifier. Training Includes clinical practice in direct
patient care, interpersonal communication skills, and hands-on experience for a variety of surgical specialties. Providing individuals with as much exposure to actual surgery as possible. Course content complies with The Joint Commission, American Heart Association (AHA), Association of Operating
Room Nurses (AORN) standards, Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, and Air Force instructions.

Transportation Management Coordinator Occupational Certificate (Completed Nov 2000)

This course allows the student to be able to apply management concepts within a changing environment; distinguish between the foundations of planning and decision-making; identify current issues in human resource management; communicate effectively and apply interpersonal skills in organizational settings; prepare performance appraisal reports; recognize aspects of culture diversity, and prepare a situational analysis. Methods of instruction include classroom exercises, learner presentations, lecture, and practical exercises.
