Gained hands-on experienced of a pilot project of Hudson River Parks that combined field work, laboratory work and data preparation. Gained experience in handling, processing (nutrients, phytoplankton/microbial assemblages), and analyzing samples (phytoplankton biomass and bacteria enumeration). Gained knowledge about different lab techniques, and training (lab safety) and worked on sophisticated lab instruments (epifluorescence microscopy) and scientific processes. Gained experience in sample collection, and onsite water quality measurement (YSI and Secchi disk) and educated how to manage work and coordinate with people during lab work and fieldwork. Participated in a conference (NY-NJ Estuaries) and shared work of project overview.
