MORGAN MELISSA WALKINSHAW

Summary

A recent graduate from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Unique and innovative problem-solving is a strong suit of mine, combined with a consistent hunger for learning and growth, both personally and professionally (including excellent communication skills). R&D (at Shukla Medical) is where I worked with a team to develop orthopedic extraction technologies for those in need. Currently, I am working on my level 2 Tripoli certification as a side project and hobby.

Work History

Mechanical Engineer

Shukla Medical
St. Petersburg, FL
10.2024 - Current
  • Rapid prototyping of orthopedic extraction tools utilizing 3D printing, material selection, and machining to develop tools with a detail-oriented approach that minimize bone loss and maximized human matter preservation.
  • Laboratory testing of prototypes where measuring forces, using specialized tools and devices to ensure the product can withstand impact forces from various angles/places on all tools used.

Research Assistant

University of South Florida
Tampa, FL
05.2023 - 08.2024
  • Company Overview: Center for Assistive Rehabilitation & Robotics Technologies
  • Worked with a group of 2-3 other students to create a universally adaptable assistive device for wheelchairs, enabling individuals with disabilities to effortlessly press elevator buttons and scan cards
  • The project referenced FDA and ISO guidelines to ensure compliance and safety in creating this medical device, and utilized IRB forms to ensure testing safety and quality
  • Integrated mechanical, electrical, and software design to fully automate a multifaceted system that can be operated using joystick controls or voice commands, and identified potential failures for product development, using similar protocols to those used in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to eliminate/minimize risks
  • Created multiple iterations improving the casings, enhancing PCB (Printed Circuit Board) efficiency, and refining the software's ease of use
  • Enhanced research quality by meticulously collecting and analyzing data from various sources
  • Center for Assistive Rehabilitation & Robotics Technologies

Mechanical Engineer Intern

Custom Manufacturing & Engineering
Saint Petersburg
01.2021 - 01.2023
  • Collaborated with a team of engineers to develop an exoskeleton, incorporating product design principles, to mitigate injuries from bearing heavy loads in work applications
  • Gained expertise in mechanical design processes and protocols, including simulation testing, work instructions, wiring, and manufacturing skills and considerations
  • Additionally, participated in product design and development, and engaged in manufacturing processes for prototyping systems
  • The team diligently worked to incorporate OSHA testing standards and accommodate a broad range of muscle and size capacities, from the 5th percentile woman to the 95th percentile man, ensuring thorough testing, analysis, and developments

Student Club

Society of Aeronautics & Rocketry
Tampa
01.2020 - 01.2022
  • Collaborated with a team of students to develop a Level 3 rocket for the Tripoli NASA Student Launch, encompassing aerostructures, avionics, payload, and propulsion systems
  • Gained expertise in implementing designs into OpenRocket software, developing a functional gimbal system for camera stability, and utilizing an online software called Wokwi to organize and test electrical designs and software implementation in C/C++
