Night Shift Counselor
I work 12 hour shifts minimum at a residential youth facility. My job description includes, engaging with youth in groups, leading the groups. Discussing hard topics and providing a positive response, trying to uplift the youth and getting them to understand their feelings and emotions. We have a very therapeutic rapport. I do checks, securing the facility and youth. Looking for contraband on the youth and in the rooms. I delegate tasks if need be. I control their hygiene items and shower times. I also ensure their safety by keeping the differences in the youth in mind and keeping ones engaged in conflict separate or I mediate issues between them in an intimate setting. I do the laundry and 5 minute checks during shower times. I also do shower watch and ensure there’s no issues in the bathroom. I clean the facility, even things not covered in our list.
