Minister

Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN
02.2020 - Current

1. Served as peacekeeping and peacebuilding expert including as the coordinator of the Non Aligned Movement at the 2020 Peacebuilding Architecture Review and supporting the Chairmanship of Bangladesh to the Peacebuilding Commission in 2022. Also served as the focal point of the mission on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and as the coordinator of Non Aligned Movement on WPS at the C34 negotiations.


2. Served as the gender expert of the mission, facilitated the Third Committee Resolution on Follow up to the Beijing Declaration and Programme of Action in 2023, ECOSOC resolution on Gender Mainstreaming in UN Policies and Programme in 2022 and 2023 and supported Bangladesh's Presidency to the UN Women Executive Board in 2022.


3. Served as the human rights expert of the mission, and as the Vice Chair of the Third Committee during the 78th Session of the UNGA representing the Asia Pacific Group; also, among others, coordinated along with Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the European Union the negotiations of the annual Third Committee resolution on 'Situation of Human Rights of the Rohingya Muslims and other Minorities in Myanmar" in 2021, 2022 and 2023.


3. Serving as the humanitarian expert of the Mission and facilitated the Annual General Assembly Resolution on “International cooperation on humanitarian assistance in the field of natural disasters, from relief to development” in 2021 and 2022.


5. Serving as the focal point of the Mission on culture of peace and related issues and facilitated the annual resolution on Follow up to the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace from 2021 to 2024 and coordinated the organization of High Level Forum on a Culture of Peace convened by the Presidents of General Assembly in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Also served as the focal point of other plenary issues including Summit of the Future, Declaration of Future Generations, Palestine, genocide, responsibility to protect, among others.


6. Serving as the legal advisor of the Mission in all matters including those related to the proceedings in the International Court of Justice (ICJ), represented Bangladesh in the Bureau of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in New York, including as facilitator for arrears in 2020, as ad country focal point to the ICC Review Mechanism (2021-2023) and facilitator for the ICC-ASP Decision on the Composition of the Committee of Budget and Finance in 2023.


7. Serving as the focal point of the mission in the New York based Executive Boards and supporting Bangladesh's Presidency to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board in 2024.

1. Served as the main interlocutor between Government of Bangladesh and the United Nations Country team from 2016 to 2020, supported implementation of the RC system in Bangladesh, coordination of humanitarian operations in Cox's Bazar for over a million Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. negotiations of cooperation agreements with UNHCR as well as annual humanitarian response Plan for the Rohingya humanitarian crisis from 2017 to 2020.


2. Also coordinated the programmes of the official visits of the UN Security Council members to Cox's Bazar in May 2018, the visit of UN Secretary General to Bangladesh in July 2018, and other high level visits from the UN as well as visits by the UN Human Rights Council special procedure mandate-holders between 2015 to 2020.


3. Served as the focal point for human rights issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; coordinated Bangladesh's participation in the 3rd cycle of Universal Periodic Review in 2018, submission and consideration of Bangladesh's implementation reports of ICCPR, ICESCR, CAT, ICMRW, CRPD to respective Human Rights Treaty Bodies between 2015 to 2020. Also dealt with other issues related to rights of religious and ethnic minorities, human trafficking, irregular migration, corruption, etc.


4. Served as main interlocutor on peace and security issues, including coordination of peacekeeping and related issues among respective Government entities including the Armed Forces and the Police, and as the focal point for the National Committee for Implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions. Also developed Bangladesh's first ever National Action Plan on Woman Peace and Security which was launched in November, 2019 in partnership with UN Woman and national and local civil society organizations.


5. Served in the 3-member Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace from 2019-2020.
