Additional Information

ne has to have more than just academic qualifications and clinical experiences. I believe one should have unique characteristics and qualities that distinguish him or her and make them a perfect fit for such a great profession. After assisting and shadowing Dr. Tawadrous, I have acquired some of these qualities and some I have acquired through life and social experiences. During the time I spent with Dr. Tawadrous, I saw how important leadership is. Being a leader is seen as guidance for a patient’s pathway to heal. Through leadership, a physical therapist will have other characteristics like patience and determination, which are vital characteristics that will make a physical therapist standout. A physical therapist needs to be patient and let the patient take his or her time to often endure slow recovery processes. A physical therapist needs to be determined to help alleviate the patient’s pain and motivate them, as sometimes recovery is hard and painful. Moreover, during my shadowing hours with Dr. Tawadrous, I acquired the characteristics of being supportive, sympathetic. These qualities are crucial to the profession of physical therapy as it has a lot of one-on-one sessions. Through these sessions, there will be many personal, heart-to-heart moments with patients who may feel vulnerable because they lack confidence in their physical abilities. The last characteristic, tolerance, I acquired through life experiences and social interactions. Tolerance and resilience are important because patients explode their aggressions out on a therapist. The aggression from patients is an act of vulnerability because these patients would be in so much pain and insufficient self-confidence, so it is out of their control. Having a thick skin will allow a physical therapist to endure many of these aggressions. It is very essential for a physical therapist to have psychological and physical welfare in order to circumvent the back-breaking effects of stress

Of course, that's in addition to being healthy, conscious, sociable, cooperative, and most importantly to be passionate about this great profession.
