● Assume responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, holding retractors, and assist the surgeon, and assist with circulating duties as necessary.
● Always observe and maintain aseptic technique.
● Assist in preparing the operating room for procedure, obtaining needed equipment and supplies.
● Maintain working knowledge of assembly and function of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
● Accomplish required scrub following policy/procedure.
● Assist with skin preparation and draping of patients.
● Complete required sponge, needle and instrument counts following policy/procedure.
● Gown and glove members of the surgical team.
● Anticipate the needs of equipment and instruments by the surgeon during an operation utilizing physician preference cards.
● Control the location of contaminated instruments and supplies to prevent the spread of infection by properly utilizing the case cart system.
● Handle and care for surgical specimens according to policy/procedure.
● Report pertinent information regarding patient care to relief personnel.
● Prepare the operating room for the next procedure by utilizing proper cleaning techniques and return equipment to the designated area.
● Research information of surgical procedure as needed.
● Assisted in various general, ortho and vascular surgeries.
