Performs difficult technical and supervisory work in dispatching police, fire, rescue, and other emergency and non-emergency personnel on an assigned shift. Work includes extensive public contact. Work is performed under the general supervision of Emergency Communications Assistant Center Supervisor. Supervises one or more shifts of the communications center; conducts training, recruits and trains new employees, conducts performance evaluations, and recommends discipline; Conducts special assignments and special research projects; Performs quality assurance on EMD and EFD programs; retrieves audio recordings of 911 calls and evaluates quality of EMD and EFD using specialized software; coordinates with other agencies;
Answers emergency and routine telephone calls; determines appropriate service to respond; provides life-saving medical instructions to callers over phone; enters caller information into Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and makes decision to accept or reject recommendation; provides logistic support for public safety field activities as necessary; Operates state-of-the-art radio console, telephone equipment, RMS, and CAD equipment Dispatches appropriate agency and monitors progress of the call; Responds to requests from general public for information concerning full range of available public services; Operates terminals for DCI (Division of Criminal Information) and/or Town computers; enters and extracts data needed for investigatory purposes by police or others authorized to receive such data; calls to appropriate department or division; assumes responsibility for Town Hall telephone information lines after hours and during holidays;

Ability to gather, organize and prioritize incoming work and independently decide an appropriate course of action;
General knowledge of the rules and laws governing the security of information; general knowledge of law enforcement and emergency communications terminology; knowledge of probation and parole policies and procedures; knowledge of the prison and court systems;
Ability to use courtesy and tact in performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive to nature Ability to establish and maintain operative working relationships with co-workers; knowledge of data processing concepts and techniques; Hands-on experience in providing police dispatch services in a law enforcement agency;
