I am a recent Nursing school graduate, who is NCLEX eligible, looking for a residency position in Pediatrics. I have always wanted to work in pediatrics or NICU, but recently finished my preceptorship in the ED, at Mary Bridge. I rediscovered that I enjoyed the fast pace and often chaotic environment that came with the ED, as I have only worked in an adult ED prior. My passion is working with children, who so often don't have a voice of their own. Compassion and empathy was something that I grew up with and think everyone should display these traits while working in healthcare.
Duties include all patient care responsibilities(ie, cleaning, grooming, feeding, repositioning), working alongside nurses and other CNAs, vital signs, charting, maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, and customer service in regards to meeting the patients expectations of care. Working in the resource float pool means that I work on all units of the hospital and I'm assigned to whatever floor they need me on that particular day and that can change in the middle of the shift and I can be floated somewhere else. The possibility of being floated to a different unit mid-shift requires this employee to be flexible and adaptive to change. Different departments include (ED, ICU, NICU, Birth Center, PCU, and MedSurg).
Caring for the children, including infants, helping with school work, arts & crafts, play time, meal preparation, and general household duties as required. My first introduction to babysitting, at the age of 10-years old, was as a “mother's helper” for my newborn cousin.
Duties include transporting patients throughout the hospital where they are needed(Radiology, Surgery, etc.,), transporting various types of equipment throughout the hospital, providing family and visitor assistance, and complete transports and discharges to the morgue.
In addition to the duties listed below(see AMC Transporter), I am responsible for calculating the department's daily idle & turn-around times, top performers, and other department averages. Other duties include daily rounding with other hospital departments, running daily huddle for our department to troubleshoot problems/concerns, rounding/documenting department equipment, managing/documenting break times, running dispatch for the department to make sure transports run smoothly, submitting maintenance and IS&T repair ticket requests, training new employees, and directly interacting/communicating with management.
