I was raised in western West Virginia but moved to North Carolina in 2004. I worked several different fields and learned a lot from each experience till I felt I found my place working to help people in the medical field.
I started in the medical field volunteering as an EMT for Elm City EMS because some elderly friends were retiring and thought I would do well to take their place. It was an honor for me. I quickly grew to love EMS and even ventured into being a volunteer firefighter too. Several years later I decided to that EMS was where my heart was so I turned in my notice of resignation to NC Farm Bureau as an insurance agent to go full-time in EMS.
I found many friends and really even family in EMS and the ERs that I came to work with, especially Nash UNC ER. I went through a lot of classes to improve my skills and provide the best, most competent care that I could. Dr Kenneth Moore was a great help to my development.
With the schedule I was working at Nash EMS, I began having trouble sleeping, as is common, so I took some time off from EMS and was able to stay at home and homeschool my brilliant son.
Although this was an amazing time of growth, bonding, and healing, it's now time for me to get back to doing what I love and have spent so much time training to do.
Volunteered for years as an EMT but started my full-time paid career here. I grew and made lots of great connections with co-workers and ER staff.
Went to school and got my paramedic certification with the help of wonderful colleagues and mentors through ECRS.
I only left ECRS for better benefits offered by Nash County EMS.
