Summary

I'm a dedicated nursing student with a 4.0 GPA at California State University, Fresno, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with the long-term goal of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). I have a strong foundation in med-surge nursing, interdisciplinary care, patient assessment, lab value and vital sign monitoring from my clinical rotation experience at this hospital during my second and third semesters for med-surge and OB respectively. I'm currently seeking a nursing externship in a step down ICU setting at this hospital to strengthen my foundational nursing skills, gain valuable clinical experience, and prepare for future practice in critical care environments such as the ICU which is where I want to work in after graduation. Being able to work with ICU patients is important to me given the fact that my grandfather, a type 2 diabetic with bilateral AKA, who I lived with growing up had spent the last decade of his life in and out of the ICU at this hospital. He had immigrated from the Philippines with my grandmother and I remember being involved in his ADLs such as bedpanning him, emptying his urinals, and helping him ambulate around the home. Unfortunately, he passed away in the ICU unit in this hospital around eight years ago so it's been my life-long ambition since then to care for patients like my grandfather. I also have a history of congenital heart conditions on my father's side which has driven to working in critical care as well. I have had rotations on the telemetry floor and ED during my med-surge clinical at this hospital where I feel that this externship presents a unique opportunity for me to join my baseline foundation in critical care and meticulous patient monitoring paired with med-surgical nursing skills. Despite my professional experience being minimal, I'd consider my strengths as being a team player who prioritizes patient safety and well-being and being a hard-working student who is willing to do everything in my power to learn new skills and prove myself worthy of working alongside the step-down ICU team of this hospital.
