I work with Kids West staff to model behavioral strategies which promote prosocial skills for all participants, including those with social, emotional and/or behavioral needs. I provide training and support for staff and students within the Kids West program.
I am a certified CPI instructor and train/certify our staff in order to meet student needs.
As the Social Emotional Behavior Specialist I engage with staff, students and families in the following ways.
Assist students in dealing with conflict, expressing themselves in appropriate ways, and improving their behavior
Guide and support students as necessary to maintain a safe environment, with a focus on Positive Behavior Intervention and Support.
Directly teach social and emotional skills, emotion regulation strategies, and conflict resolution skills to individual students and small groups.
Provide on-site assistance to mentor and assist Kids West staff in promoting healthy social-emotional development.
Provide professional development and coaching for Kids West staff focused on social-emotional development and/or challenging behavior. Train staff in the use of Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Strategies (CPI).
Regularly meet with parents and Kids West staff regarding behavioral issues as needed.
Advocate for the needs of students.
Assist in the development and implementation of behavior plans for students with intensive behavioral needs.
Meet with school staff and administration as needed to support the whole student.
Partner with administrative and district leadership to improve discipline practices based on data findings.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of assigned students in the form of behavior data, safety plans, diagnoses and medical data.

I led the restoration process and implementation of restorative practices within the school community (IIRP trainer and practitioner), including designing specific elements of the process for school site
I was the lead for the safety and security of the building through the implementation of the District Safety Framework. This included at times being a liaison with police and emergency services.
I gathered, processed and assessed building behavior data. I worked closely with the building administration team to coordinate needed supports for students. I worked with the admin team to determine student's outcomes and consequences after major behaviors.
I worked with the counseling team, special educations department and the tier 2 team to provide students with comprehensive supports.

I worked with students who were struggling with behavior issues, attendance issues.
I worked closely with building administration and the counseling department in order to support students who were in need of Tier 2 or 3 supports.
I worked with the School Resource Officer in order to ensure a safe and secure building and environment.
I was a certified CPI trainer. I trained and certified staff within Roosevelt and taught them strategies to engage with and de-escalate students in crisis.
I led the student support team in running restorative circles with our at-risk students based on our data run on tableau reports
I lead restorative conversations between students and students, students and staff and possibly staff and families
I coordinated the work of the crisis team to make sure our building was safe for our students to come into and learn.
During the covid-19 outbreak and students were learning remotely, I led my team in supporting students with their online learning though basic tech support, community resources and virtual meetings between staff and students when a behavior issue arose.
As a SUCCESS worker for DMPS, I had a caseload of 15-20 students at three different grade schools (Madison, Howe and Brubaker) who all met at least 3 At-Risk Indicators gathered from multiple pieces of data. This included school attendance, grades, behavior data, living status, involvement with the court system.
I would work with each student to set up a plan for us to follow. This would include very individualized action points that focused on what they needed the most growth and support on.
I sat on the tier 2 team at each of the three schools I worked in. We would discuss students who needed support beyond Tier 1 engagement and find what staff member(s) could help implement these supports.
At all three schools I was also part of the Crisis Team. I would respond to escalating behaviors and attempt to engage students in crisis in order to de-escalate them. I also helped support and train classroom teachers and paras on different approaches to working with students who presented challenges within their classroom.
