Work History

Research Scientist, R&D Flex Team

Promega
05.2022 - 10.2024
  • Moved between various different R&D teams to support the development of Promega's most high profile and high priority projects. (e.g. Participated in Method Validation for OncoMate® MSI Dx Analysis System)
  • Utilized expertise in assay design, cell culture, luminescent and fluorescent assays, PCR, protein purification, lab automation, and a wide variety of other techniques and tools.
  • Collaborated with project partners on experiment design and priority.
  • Analyzed experimental results and contributed to data presentation on intra-team meetings, as well as meeting with outside collaborators.

Research Scientist, Nucleic Acid Tech Group

Promega
05.2008 - 05.2022
  • Added to Promega's nucleic acid purification portfolio by contributing to the development of the ReliaPrep FFPE gDNA and Total RNA systems.
  • Explored several technical avenues to developing a DNA integrity assay, including fluorescent end-labeling, fluorescence polarization of labeled DNA, and ultimately a multiplexed qPCR assay.
  • Evaluated Advanced Analytical's Fragment Analyzer (since purchased by Agilent) for possible development into Promega's Spectrum Instrument.
  • Used experience with PCR technology to create DNA contamination and nuclease activity QC protocols for several buffers and enzymes manufactured under cGMP conditions.
  • Collaborated with QC and Production departments to perform Method Transfer from R&D.
  • Developed and launched gene expression assays to monitor differentiation of human and mouse stem cells.
  • Developed an RT-qPCR assay to differentiate the source of small drops of bodily fluid. Intended for the forensics market.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Michael Thomas Lab, UW-Madison
05.2005 - 12.2007

  • Assisted a graduate student in the study of a biosynthetic gene cluster in Pseudomonas syringae.
  • Generated deletion mutant of Streptomyces coelicolor for use in future metagenomic studies.
  • Performed gene function assays.
