I am a physics undergraduate at the University at Buffalo, driven by an insatiable curiosity for the fundamental workings of the universe. My academic journey began in computer science, but I quickly realized the topics failed to ignite my passion. Seeking a new direction, I transitioned to public health, believing I might find my calling in the medical field. However, as I delved deeper into the coursework, it became clear that my enthusiasm lay elsewhere.
During this period of self-discovery, I encountered quantum phenomena through online videos, sparking a profound interest in understanding the “why” behind these mysterious events. Determined to explore this fascination further, I borrowed a beginner’s book on quantum mechanics from the library. Though I struggled initially due to my limited mathematical background, the experience fueled my determination. I soon immersed myself in more advanced textbooks, cementing my passion for physics and prompting me to change my major once again.
Recognizing the challenge ahead, I dedicated my summer to intensive self-study in math and physics to ensure I was prepared to excel alongside my peers. This commitment led me to join a research group at the university focused on semiconductor materials, devices, and fabrication. Through this experience, I have gained hands-on expertise in characterizing semiconductor materials such as graphene. This work has deepened my understanding of the semiconductor industry and solidified my aspiration to contribute to its future advancements.
As I continue my undergraduate studies, I am committed to expanding my knowledge through research and practical experiences. I aim to seize summer research opportunities to further immerse myself in the semiconductor field and develop innovative solutions that will leave a lasting impact. My journey has been marked by curiosity, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of understanding—a combination I believe will enable me to make meaningful contributions to the world of physics and beyond.
