Dedicated to promoting inquiry-based student learning with diversified instructional and classroom management approaches. Talented lecturer able to facilitate strong discussions, lead immersive laboratory activities and manage special independent projects to promote optimal learning. Specializing in Secondary Science teaching.
Currently teaching Biology, AP Experience Biology, AP Environmental Science for grades 9-12th graders at Walter Johnson High School. I sponsor Gardening Club and participate in other capacities within the department. At Silver Spring Middle School, courses in life sciences in the IB (International Baccalaureate) MYP (Middle Years Programme) to students within a global context and within their own community. I was the lead teacher for 7th grade cohort. We coordinated curriculum, labs, assessments, and activities. I was leading the Field Trip Committee where we plan outdoor trips to enrich and enhance student curriculum.
Courses taught: Honors and Regular Biology, AP Biology, Environmental Science, and Genetics. Incorporated case study method for relevant and engaging science learning for grades 9-12. I integrated personal response systems for formative assessments to monitor and revise science instruction. I sponsor the Ecology Club, Interact Club and Science National Honor Society for students to participate, help and learn within their own community and as citizen scientists. I use a variety of wet-labs, virtual labs and computer simulations to help students grasp difficult and advanced science topics
As an adjunct, I instructed 40-50 students via an online course delivery system with real-time tutoring, assessment and communication. I had daily contact with students and parents to monitor progression, help with material and assist with online learning. I kept a lively, manageable pace with students to maximize completion for credit and credit recovery.
As a lead teacher (2010-2011) I provided professional development and mentoring to new teachers relating to science and general best practices. I was also involved in the accreditation renewal process. I was the AVID science lead at Cypress Creek (2005-2010) and an AVID trainer for Orange County Public Schools (2009-2011). I was also in charge of science chemical inventory and safety (2008-2011), helping keep in compliance with Federal OSHA and Florida DEP laws. Courses taught include Integrated/Physical Science , Biology Honors and Regular, AP Biology and AP Environmental Science. I planned and conducted hands-on inquiry based science activities to provide students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
