  • I cleaned up the job site when necessary, and otherwise helped the journeyman with whatever they needed.
  • Stocked materials.
  • I did not spend my time stocking and scrapping; I was on my tools the majority of the time. The apprentices would band together to clean up the job, and then we would go back to work.
  • It was to my benefit to do most of my apprenticeship at a smaller company because it gave me more opportunity to work with my tools and learn my trade.

  • I was given a company phone so the foreman always had contact with me through the *chirp* to ensure that material was always delivered in a timely manner.
  • By the end of the job, I was no longer a pre-apprentice stocker scrapper, but a first-stage apprentice framing on the backing crew.
  • From backing I jumped over to the Lath crew and became the apprentice of my freind that got me in the trade(Alvin Leary).
  • I went on to be Alvin's apprentice for the next two years, going with him from job to job and to different companies.
  • This is where I learned a lot of the basics of framing and lath, as well as how to look for work and carry yourself on the job site.
  • Eventually, we would land at Rutherford, where I would finish out my apprenticeship and continue to learn and hone my skills and techniques in the installation of framing, lath, and drywall.
