Personal and professional experience with involvement in the foster care system as an intern for The Dually Involved Youth Unit (DIY), I shadowed, assisted and supported DIY social workers with managing their client caseload. Participated in Child Family Team Meeting (CFT), court hearings, monthly contact meetings with clients, transporting clients, delivering needed items to clients. I Participated with social workers in transporting DIY clients to appointments such as to school, and court appointments. I Participated in CTF meetings with the DIY client’s support team to evaluate the youth’s needs and come up with recommendations to best direct the managing of the case. During my DIY internship I learned about and applied the basic principles and techniques of social workers in all my interactions with DIY youth, their case team members and their families.
