Work History

Research Project (PhD Thesis)

Michigan State University
01.2021 - Current
  • Interfaces and interfacial properties would be controlled and investigated after a monolayer or film (multi-layers) has been deposited onto a solid substrate, specifically, controlling in situ and reversibly the manner in which a layer or film (multilayer) would bind to a surface
  • The oxidation state of the metal ions in a metal ion-complexed monolayer is planned to be electrochemically changed and explore the consequences of this process on the organization of that layer on the surface
  • Similarly, multilayer assemblies formed on substrates would be characterized, and the properties controlled using electrochemistry
  • Another way of building layers on a substrate would be via cross-linking chemistry

Teacher's Assistant

Michigan State University Department of Chemistry
01.2021 - 05.2023
  • Supported classroom activities, tutoring, and reviewing work.
  • Helped with grading assignments and tests, providing constructive feedback to students based on results.
  • Facilitated activities in small groups to reinforce concepts taught by class teacher.
  • Maintained laboratory safety by demonstrating equipment and techniques.
  • Shared important information with students concerning upcoming assignments and tests.

Research Project (M.Sc. Thesis)

Institute of Chemical Technology
01.2019 - 05.2019
  • An extraction technique was developed for the removal/recovery of 90Sr from chemical waste using a commercial surfactant (Triton X -100) and a natural surfactant (Soapnut)
  • The parameters which may affect the extraction such as concentration of the metal, pH of the solution, additives etc., were also studied
  • Skills Learnt: To design the methodology which would be able to remove the metal from the waste effectively
  • To study the changes effected by the parameters such as pH, additives etc

Summer Project 2018

Homi Bhabha Centre of Science and Education, TIFR
05.2018 - 07.2018
  • A technique was developed to extract strontium from chemical waste using a non-ionic surfactant, Triton X-100
  • This surfactant was chosen because it had a cloud point temperature (The temperature at which a solution of non-ionic surfactant becomes turbid on heating and on cooling, there is phase separation)
  • Skills Learnt: To observe the phase separation of the surfactant (Triton X-100) which occurs within a narrow temperature range that is constant for surfactant concentrations below a few percent
  • To predict whether the surfactant could be used for the removal of the metal from the waste

Volunteer

JUMPSTART THERAPY CENTRE - ASHISH FOUNDATION
09.2014 - 09.2017
  • Assisted guidance counselors during therapies and vocational training sessions for differently abled people.
  • Maintained clean, neat, and operational facilities to serve program needs.

Summer Project 2016

St. Xaviers College
05.2016 - 07.2016
  • Synthesis and isolation of some organic compounds were carried out following different procedures
  • The isolations were carried out to analyze the elements present
  • The theoretical, observed and percentage yields of the products obtained were calculated to compare the efficiency of the procedures
  • Skills Learnt: To design procedures for the synthesis and the isolation of compounds such that pure compounds would be obtained, and also maximum yield would be obtained
  • Also, to carry out the synthesis using compounds which are easily available and cost friendly

Experiences Projects

  • To design and characterize molecular monolayer and multilayer assemblies with electrochemically controllable organization, Michigan State University, Prof. Gary Blanchard, 01/01/21, present, Interfaces and interfacial properties would be controlled and investigated after a monolayer or film (multilayers) has been deposited onto a solid substrate, specifically, controlling in situ and reversibly the manner in which a layer or film (multilayer) would bind to a surface. The oxidation state of the metal ions in a metal ion-complexed monolayer is planned to be electrochemically changed and explore the consequences of this process on the organization of that layer on the surface. Similarly, multilayer assemblies formed on substrates would be characterized, and the properties controlled using electrochemistry.
  • Cloud point extraction of a metal using commercial and natural surfactants, Institute of Chemical Technology, Prof. Radha V. Jayaram, 01/01/19, 05/31/19, An extraction technique was developed for the removal/recovery of 90Sr from chemical waste using a commercial surfactant (Triton X -100) and a natural surfactant (Soapnut). The parameters which may affect the extraction such as concentration of the metal, pH of the solution, additives etc., were also studied.
  • Cloud point extraction of Strontium from chemical waste using Triton X-100, a non-ionic surfactant, Homi Bhabha Centre of Science and Education, TIFR, Mrs. Indrani Sen, 05/01/18, 07/31/18, A technique was developed to extract strontium from chemical waste using a non-ionic surfactant, Triton X-100.
