Worked on paper macine dry end crew and stock prep(beater room)Was a utility on dry end ( plugged rolls of paper, drove fork lift to remove paper broke from wet-end and also dry end. worked in stock prep as a Utility and moved up to Pulper Operator and then moved up to Stock Tester then moved up to Stock Tender (Beater Engineer).Performed varies duties(driving fork truck, cutting wires on bales of pulp for Stock Tender for use in Liner Pulper,moving totes of dyes and chemicals, helping dry-end crew during a paper break. As a Pulper Operater I would make batches of pulp or broke depending on the recipe for the grade of paper.As a Stock Tester I would do varies duties, Test the paper stock's freeness and consistency, keep chemical totes full, help the Stock Tender set up the Dye Skid and keep the dye tanks full.Help the Stock Tender wash-up, use caustic chemicals, to clean the stockprep area on shut downs. As a Stock Tender I was in charge of coloring the paper stock and adding chemicals (sizing, polymers,starch) also running two different pulpers and running different systems ,color,starch,polydisk drainage,sizing( AKD). We ran two stock systems(liner,filler) Later years Longfalls eliminated the Stock Tester job so the Stock Tender was doing two jobs sometimes three jobs.

Worked on the rubber calander wrapping rubber with plastic sheeting and canvas to get ready for the oven.Kept the talc bin full. Worked on the warm-up mills and the mixing mill. Weighed chemicals for mixing mill.

Worked on a paper machine dry-end crew from utility to fourth hand to third hand doing varies duties(cutting cores,setting up paper winder and slitting paper into rolls) also washing up the paper machine (boil-out) clean-up. Sometimes working in the Beater room helping load the conveyor with bales of paper clippings or pulp. weighing up dry dyes for the Beater Engineer. Cleaning out debris from the Broke pulper. Sweeping and cleaning the main dryers and after dryers(scraping pony rolls). Helping dry-end crew replace wet-end felts and dryer felts. Using crane to move reels of paper.

Drove bucket truck to work locations. Operated gas powered anchor screw to screw in guide wires, Hammered in copper ground rods next to power poles, pulled cable lasher. Got supplies for Linesman. Directed traffic.
