As a Statewide Screener, I was responsible for evaluating and screening families across the state to determine their eligibility and appropriateness for specific intervention, programs or services, ensuring alignment with established criteria and guidelines.

• Initiate the investigative process for all assigned intake reports, to include substantiating allegations through sound social work practice.
• Responsible for making all necessary contracts with collaterals, initial reporters and others deemed pertinent for the purpose of ascertaining the need for intervention or the type of intervention warranted.
• Enhanced client satisfaction with thorough screenings and accurate information gathering during initial consultations.
• Maintained comprehensive client records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in all documentation.
• Relay reports of abuse and neglect (intakes) to appropriate CPS field staff or outside agencies.

As a Children Protective Services Supervisor, I oversaw and managed a team of caseworkers responsible for investigating and addressing allegations of child abuse or neglect, ensuring the safety and well-being of at-risk children. Additionally, I provided guidance, support, and supervision to the team to uphold the highest standards of child protection within established legal and agency frameworks.

• Manage, develop and evaluate staff, to ensure that the unit operates efficiently to achieve all project goals and objectives, while monitoring budgets and caseloads.

• Lead and promote unit morale, create effective working relationships between the Agency, Legal and Medical Departments, Community Resources, and the General Public.

• Train workers in becoming familiar with DFPS communication policies, standards and guidelines to ensure that all communication is professional, accurate and consistent with agency policy and objectives.

In my role as a Children Protective Service Trainer, I designed and delivered comprehensive training programs for caseworkers, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively handle cases of child abuse or neglect. I focused on continuous professional development, ensuring that staff remained well-versed in the latest policies, procedures, and best practices within the child protective services domain.

• Provide training to CPS trainees to conduct investigations of child abuse and neglect to ensure consistency in instruction and support.

• Develop and train staff in individual and group settings, on proper completion of BSD tasks, coach techniques to help strengthen interviewing skills, assessment skills, time management, computer literacy & preparation for necessary court actions when required.

• Conduct home studies for the Kinship Program and complete FBSS cases, from inception to closure.

As a Children Protective Service Investigator IV, I held a senior investigative role, leading complex assessments and interventions in cases of alleged child abuse or neglect. Responsible for providing expert guidance to junior investigators, I ensured compliance with legal protocols and agency policies to safeguard the well-being of at-risk children.

• Investigate cases of sexual abuse and neglect of children, from birth to age 18. • Review and analyze all interviews and documents to determine facts that corroborate the allegations.

• Work alone with surrounding law enforcement, attend court hearings and testify in court hearings when needed.

• Make community referrals based on the psychosocial and health needs of the children and families.

• Provide immediate services or crisis intervention when needed or required. • Maintain a client caseload.

• Conduct home studies to determine if prospective caregivers’ homes are adequate for the placement of a child(ren).
