I want to be a teacher who contributes to society in a meaningful way, specifically, to make an impact by providing education as a tool to succeed, equally, my challenges are to build compassion in all students and willingness to change predetermined attitudes towards the diverse and complex demographic on today's inner-city student body, where I feel that I can be of most help.
I believe and practice the: learn, unlearn, relearn theory. This theory is a cycle of gaining and applying knowledge, discarding out-of-date information, and gaining new information that builds upon and updates the previous knowledge. It involves staying current in the world and reflecting on one's current opinions and beliefs to potentially revise them.
With this in mind, the final, and essential aspect of my teaching practice, forming a core element of my teaching philosophy is reflection. During the school year, I collect evidence through discussions with students, student emails, assessment results, and formal evaluations. I make time to analyze the data, reflect and evaluate the past academic quarters and then I have discussions about the curriculum, the module structure, and assessments with my colleagues, those who co-present the module, and if need be with colleagues in other modules. My goal for the future is to make every lesson plan better than the previous one, join my students in their critical thinking, learn through engagement with them, become more of a facilitator than a lecturer, and continue to learn, plan and develop effective curriculum, unit, and lesson design.
