Applied Holter Monitors in previous clinics in the private sector also, while working in Primary Care and Cardiology for 1.5 years I've observed EKG techs prep patients to wear Holter Monitors to gain more knowledge and experience. Inspecting batteries, monitor, electrodes and cables before applying Holter. Patient chest is to be shaved to allow electrodes to stay in place. Monitors are attached to the electrodes & cables ae taped to patient chest. The pouches are kept from damage to the monitors. A small journal log is for patients to write down any symptoms that may or may not occur while wearing their Holter Monitor such as: dizziness or lightheadedness. A Monitor can be worn for 24hrs or 14 days upon physician orders. All parts and table to be cleaned thoroughly according to CDC guidelines for next patient and/or next day.
    • Sanitized, restocked and organized exam rooms and medical equipment. From experience and training we use universal precautions and sterilization techniques to prevent the spread of infections and diseases by using proper PPE, washing hands before and after each procedure.
    • Prepared and administered medications to alleviate patient symptoms. Ability to monitor the patient for adverse reactions and take appropriate action if a patient has a allergic reaction to tape, latex-the appropriate action would be to use paper tape and latex free gloves. Patients with broken skin causes poor conduction. Wipe and wet or sweat, no oils or lotion should be applied to chest area.
