As a YMSL member, I push myself to be as fair, caring, and helpful as I can be. YMSL, or Young Men's Service League, is an organization that helps boys and their mothers serve the community and the city they live in while also building connections with others. From volunteering at food banks to showing us what jail looks like, YMSL has provided me with opportunities to see what the real world is like.
This summer two colleagues and I worked at the Old Dominion University Engineering building where we focused on creating a device that helped us separate cells using magnets. This device can be applied in the medical field when dealing with cancer diagnoses. We have already presented at the Biophysical Society Conference in Philadelphia and were published in their newsletter this year and ScienceDirect and we plan to publish in the coming weeks.
Being a theravada buddhist in Virginia leaves limiting options when it comes to place of worship. To resolve this, me, my family, and several others in the theravada buddhist community built a temple for Bhante Vivek, our temples head monk. He had been living in a vietnam monastery in less than average conditions. He now has a temple all too himself and we spend our time on sundays taking care of the temple by cleaning it and the land its on.
