I am applying for the position of Assistant Fire Chief because I believe my 20+ years of experience in the Military and Fire Protection and Prevention industry provide me with the experience, knowledge, and insight to be a success while leading the Clark County Fire Department into a bright and productive future.
Inspected existing structures, new construction, and remodel sites to ensure all proper fire codes and ordinances are properly enforced. Inspect numerous pyrotechnic shows for safety of audience and performers. Resolved compliance issues with owners that were within my scope of knowledge and authority. Inspection of hydrants, sprinkler systems and automatic fire extinguishing systems. On-site review of construction plans for compliance with approved plans. Provide public education in fire prevention and safety to numerous organizations. Maintain a variety of data and records related to fire inspections activities; prepare reports as required by management. Assists with training and development of new Fire Inspectors. Ensure proper implementation of best practices, policies, and procedures in alignment with regulations and operational needs.
Assisted families in achieving self-sufficiency, including interviewing individuals to determine eligibility for a variety of public assistance and health related programs such as food stamps and Medicaid. Provided coordinated employment and training services including assessment, vocational guidance, support services, and education to clients. Responsible to verify family members, their income, and citizenship for the aforementioned programs.
Was responsible for the education of students from all military branches on hazard classes and division; decontamination procedures; dispersion patterns; foams and their application; defensive control techniques in controlling hazardous material mishaps; identification of various containers and contacting an operation centers when needed. Also, instructed recruits in search and rescue of building; auto extrication; venting a structure fire; setting up ladders and numerous other fire ground activities.
Served as a crew chief in charge of junior firefighting personnel, including writing performance evaluations and counseling individuals on deficiencies in work performance. Responsible for on-scene command as first arriving emergency vehicle, assigning other emergency crews as necessary. Served as driver/operator, driving and operating firefighting apparatus of significant complexity exercising a thorough knowledge of equipment capabilities and military installation characteristics. Assisted in training other firefighters in the skills of driving and operating the equipment. Responsible for assigning daily work assignments to all members of the fire department.
