Neuro Acute Care: 37 Bed unit

• Provide direct care for 4-5 patients who are admitted under either the neurology or neurosurgery departments for various strokes, dissections, seizures, brain tumors, and spinal injuries/conditions
• Closely monitor new stroke patients with thorough neurological assessments
• Utilize critical thinking in order to handle emergent situations that require immediate intervention
• Time management skills and prioritization in order to manage care for multiple complex patients
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (MDs, Pharmacists, Respiratory therapists, PT/OT)
• Precept nurse apprentices and orient new staff to the unit

Abdominal Surgery & Surgical oncology: 28 bed unit

• Monitored and documented vital signs
• Assisted with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, feeding, and mobility
• Promoted a safe and clean environment by maintaining strict adherence to infection control protocols and sanitation standards

Transplant: 32 bed unit

• Checked hourly blood sugars to help nurses titrate insulin drips
• Helped ensure safety for patients dealing with hepatic encephalopathy by using bed alarms, restraints, 1:1 supervision
• Recorded hourly outputs for kidney transplant patients and reported abnormalities to nurses
• Monitored output and appearance for various drains after surgery
