I am currently a student taking classes for a technical diploma in the electricity program at Milwaukee Area Technical College. I am half way through my degree and below I have listed what I have learned to do so far:
General
• Single pole switches, 3-Way switches, and 4-way switches
• Duplex receptacle ,Split Receptacle, and GFCI installation and wiring
• Cable installation in wooden frame members (Non-metallic, Armored cable and Metal-Clad cable)
• Rough in phase
• Device termination, Splicing, Box layering
• Non metallic and Metallic Box Installation • Conduit bending (Stubs, Back to back 90s and 10-45 degree offsets)
• Trouble shooting for ground faults, short faults, and open faults.
2023 National Electric Code
• Box sizing
• Service and feeder calculations (Demand factors and conductor sizing)
• Conduit sizing
• Specific requirements for all wiring methods (Support requirements, maximum amount of bends, grounding conductor, etc.)
• Requirements for receptacles, luminaries, and branch circuits in dwelling units.
Electrical Theory
• Series, Parallel, Combination circuit calculations for resistive(Voltage, Amps, Ohms, Watts), Inductive(Henry's, VARs, Reactance), and capacitive (Farads) circuits with AC and DC including power factor.
• Trigonometry
• RMS, Peak voltage, instantaneous voltage and make voltage calculations
• Frequency and period calculations
