I have been passionate about history for as long as I can remember. Whether reading historical texts, books, and media or visiting museums, history has always been an integral part of my life. Growing up in Washington, D.C., I made it a tradition to visit the Smithsonian museums on my birthdays, immersing myself in the past at every opportunity. After moving to Wisconsin, I sought new ways to engage with history, which led me to discover Old World Wisconsin. Intrigued by its mission, I eagerly signed up for a summer program, where I had the privilege of apprenticing with facilitators and gaining hands-on experience in historical education. This experience not only deepened my passion for history but also equipped me with 3 key valuable skills. I learned about the importance of conducting research, which I saw carefully attended to at each of the living sites. I also learned teaching techniques to engage learners from the facilitators I was paired with. Lastly, I learned how to collaborate with facilitators and camp leaders to grow my own knowledge. I am eager to apply this knowledge and enthusiasm in a professional setting where I can contribute to historical education and engagement.
