Focused on the role of Indiana Avenue in African American business development, the jazz scene, civil rights activism, and the effects of urban renewal on the African American community. Studied the contributions of key figures like Madame C.J. Walker and the influence of institutions like the Walker Theatre on both cultural and political movements.
