Concord Hospital, Progressive Care Unit, Advanced Medical-Surgical | Concord, NH | Fall 2021

  • Worked with an 81-year-old Vietnam Veteran who was post-Myocardial Infarction and insertion of a pacemaker. This patient showed the importance of taking time when available to listen to the patients and determine the best way for them to achieve their goals. By taking the time to listen about his military history, family life and two cats the patient became more excited about completing his daily tasks and more willing to allow for all assessments and wound care to be performed.
  • Observed aspiration and paracentesis of fluid around a patient’s heart after there was a notable decreased in output from the patient’s chest tube that was originally inserted for a pericardial effusion.

New Hampshire Hospital, E Unit, Mental Health | Concord, NH | Summer 2021

  • Recognized by Mental Health Workers and clinical instructor for advocating for the patients’ needs. Such as, x-rays for a patient who hurt his knee while walking in the gym, changes in medication regiments and outpatient consultations for a patient that needed a dermatology and gynecology consult.
  • Organized group open gym sessions to include soccer games and took part in group sessions involved answering questions about their goals and favorite things.

  • Provided care to patients on telemetry and cardiac care unit to include performing frequent CIWA assessments on an alcohol withdrawal patient that typically drinks six bottles of hard liquor per day to monitor for hallucination, signs of potential seizure and other withdrawal symptoms.
  • Advocated for palliative care for an elderly patient that was receiving extensive treatments that was not going to prolong a good quality of life. Discussed with the assigned nurse and provider about the benefits of palliative care would be a better treatment plan to promote a better quality of life.
