Nicole values working hard and playing fair. She is a longtime resident of rural Nicollet County, and has worked in the arts, education, and nonprofit sectors. She is educated in communication, public policy and leadership, and special education services and law. She volunteers as a baseball and track coach, as well as at food nonprofits.
- Case Management: Manage caseload of Tier 2,3, and 4 students who demonstrate high needs in behavior and academic challenges.
- Coordination of Care: Work closely with community and court systems, including officers, probation officers, guardian ad litems, foster parents, therapists, to coordinate follow-through on plans for therapy, probation, community service, academic achievement, and school attendance for students.
- Progress Monitoring: Track individual progress in social and emotional learning, as well as academic progress toward goals outlined in Individualized Education Plans and/or requirements from probation officers or judges per sentences.
- Collaboration with Services: Communicate regularly with social workers and other community resources including coaches, churches, nonprofits, corporations to seek and find necessary experiences and resources needed by the students, which could be anything from a place on the track team to housing for the child's family.
- Health and Safety: develop strong relationships based on trust with children to assess their safety and well-being in the home and in school. Make reports when necessary. Be a support to children during CPS interventions and interviews.
- Host Meetings: Prepare, organize, and host regular meetings among children, guardians, school staff, special education team members, and psychologists to determine eligibility for special education, determine accommodations and modifications, and strategies for implementation. Follow the law to ensure all the child's legal rights to fair and equal and least-restrictive environments are sanctioned in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Write and Maintain Caseload Records: Write, edit, revise, update, and file IEPs in accordance with district policy and state and federal law.
- Host Mediations and Circles: Use facilitative mediation and Restorative Circles to diffuse high-conflict situations between children and between children and adults.
- Organize Transportation: Coordinate specialized transportation to and from school and activities for children
- Teach Social and Emotional Learning classes featuring units and practice in Self-Management, Self-Awareness, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.
- Collaborate with Staff: Communicate and collaborate with other special education staff, counselors, administrators, community professions to design and implement best practices.
