Licensed Practical nurse recently transitioned into the role of Registered Nurse on the Adult in-patient Behavioral Health unit. Duties consist of receiving pt from outgoing nurse, obtaining brief but vital information on pt admission and current conditions. To provide therapeutic support to a wide variety of patients experiencing mental health crisis. These diagnoses' may include detoxing from chemical dependence, those suffering from anxiety and depression with or without suicidal ideations. Individuals experiencing psychosis from drug use or mental health disorders, such as bipolar, and schizophrenia. Be able to document subjective and objective s/s of detox using Clinical Institute of Withdrawal Symptoms (CIWA) and Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS). Monitor detox vital signs for increasing distress which may lead to life threatening conditions. Monitor pts for s/s of Extrapyramidal Symptoms (EPS). Provide Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) for individuals who are experiencing severe distress who cannot or may not be able to recognize their harmful behavior either to themselves or others. Collect required labs that may include blood or urine samples. Complete required shift documentation, including a shift note, updated Behavior Health assessment, and pts plan of care with goals.
