Ke'Aloha is a private stable for English show horses. Off a recommendation from a rider, I got the job as a Barn Assistant. The owner is often away at shows, at which time I manage the barn. Managing includes opening and closing, feeding and turning out on average 20 show horses and cleaning and organizing stalls. If during my watch, a horse were to get any minor Injury, I would dress and clean them as well as administer various medications.
While in High School I volunteered as an intern for several months before being hired as a Vet Technician, I worked part time hours because I was a full time student. As an intern I cleaned kennels, fed, walked, and cared for cats and dogs who were kenneled for pre and post surgeries.
As a hired employee, my workload included assisting the doctor with examinations and surgeries. among other things, I prepped the surgery room, Lifted heavy animals onto surgical tables and positioned the animal for examination and x-rays. I also assisted the doctor with bloodwork and administering vaccinations. After surgery I cleaned and sterilize the surgery room.
As a full-time middle school student, I volunteered at a private/ leisure horse ranch near my home. I did the daily tasks of feeding, cleaning, and turning out about a dozen horses for about a year to learn how to care for a horse because I wanted my own one day. After about a year of volunteering, I became a paid employee doing the same jobs I had previously been doing. One of my jobs included giving one of the horses laser therapy treatment twice daily for about 6 months. I did get my first horse at the age of 15. he was a Trakehner that I rode western pleasure.
