Summary

SUMMARY
I am a proficient practitioner with over twenty-five years of nursing experience in various clinical settings. I am currently working in the Heart & Lung transplant department at the Manchester University Hospital NHS Trust as a Physician Associate (since 2018). Before commencing the Physician Associate course, I worked as a senior Charge nurse in the Critical Care Unit for over eight years. (Cardiac ITU & General ITU). I have worked with patients on various clinical conditions from different specialties and have shown interest in taking the lead role in managing emergency/complex situations. I maintain my critical care nursing skills by working part-time agency nursing jobs in various ITUs across northwest England. Patients come first in everything I do, and I aim to deliver high standards of effective health care within the best practice guidelines.

I always strive to keep updated with specialist knowledge through Continuing Professional Development. The physician Associate training program enabled me to gain confidence in performing many of the day-to-day clinical activities usually performed by doctors, including physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosis, and treatment of common and complex diseases (within my competence level). I completed the MSc Critical Care course at Cardiff University (2014) and the Post Graduate Diploma in Physician Associate study at the Manchester University (2018). My nursing experience in different specialties (Acute medicine, cardiology, cardiac surgery, general surgery, urology, vascular surgery, and orthopedic surgery) would enable me to become an excellent Charge Nurse/Nurse specialist. The integration of theory and practice is fundamental to clinical learning and development. During my Critical Care Charge nurse role, I undertook patient assessments, procedures (urinary catheterization, nasogastric tube insertion, venepuncture/ cannulation, etc.), clinical examinations, ordered appropriate investigations and interpreted investigation findings, and initiated nurse-led management plans for acutely ill patients. (within my clinical knowledge and competence level).

I gained confidence in the leadership role by taking the Ward Manager role in a Cardiology ward (UAE) and many years of the Charge Nurse role in various Critical Care Units. I have experienced the challenges of leadership and management by daily dealing with issues related to health, safety, and clinical risks. I was actively involved in facilitating and participating in audits and research works and working with other team members to ensure changes in practice were implemented by my team to improve quality. I enjoy teaching and mentoring junior staff. I was involved in teaching staff nurses on different subjects. I am highly organised, flexible, friendly, and approachable. I possess good problem-solving abilities and the qualities required to improve my practice and set an example for others
