• Defining the requirements needed for a regional Digital Payment Scheme
• The Scheme should facilitate Bottom of the Pyramid payments and increase activity in the BoP economies domestic and Cross-border as well as intra and inter regional all within COMESA.
• BoP Economic players include
Informal traders (cross border and domestic)
Smallholder farmers
MSMEs (registered or unregistered)
The goal of the project is to support the design, development and deployment of an integrated digital financial services infrastructure that is low-cost, interoperable and fraud resistant that serves Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with a keen focus on women and youth, and the customers they transact with at the bottom of the financial pyramid.
This would be first developed from a regulatory focus approach, to the business model and finally the actual operational and technical establishment.
