Mission Statement and Yoga/Dance

Group Instructor Experience

For more than 4 decades Nyota Nayo has taught group and private classes in Hatha and Vinyasa style Yoga and Dance classes to diverse populations thoughout NYC for Adults, Senior Citizens, Children, Pregnant Women, Homeless Families, LGBTQ youth and underserved New Yorkers for fitness, health and wellness and to build community and strengthen collaborative bonds among people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. She also teaches Egyptian Dance and Afro Brazilian Samba-Orisha dance classes for fitness and fun throughout NYC in dance and yoga studios, senior centers, corporations, as well as internationally and presently is Associate Director of Nubian Moon Daughters Dance Co. and Royal Enchantment Dance Ensemble; she coaches various Raqs Sharqui Bellydance performers and choreographs for various dance ensembles; She has also performed with Christiani Khalil Dancers with Aretha Franklin; other troupes include Viva Brazil Dance Company, Djoniba African Dance Co. and Melvin Deal African Heritage Dance Co. and Quenia Ribeiro Folkloric Dance Ensemble and Nego Gato Afro Brazilian Dance Company and numerous other troupes and in music videos. She lectures for cultural events and performs in Haflas throughout NY, and continues to receive training from various Dance Masters from the US, the African Diaspora, Europe, the Caribbean, India and South America. She also works as a childbirth coach and educator and is presently Director of Women's Wellness at Sweet Water Dance and Yoga Studio teaching yoga and dance classes and also teaches at New York City Department of Health, Harlem Yoga Studio, Highbridge Senior Center, World Arts East, Soulworks and One Yoga For All. She is currently teaching for BTGTM and Brownie Wellness leading Yoga and

meditation sessions and dance classes. She previously taught at Owls Head Yoga Studio, Yoga in Bayridge, Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership, PSS and was Adjunct teacher of Hatha Yoga at NY College of Health Professions. She continues to teach Yoga and Meditation with soundbath and Dance in the Spirit of service to the Community for Wellness for All, healing, joy, education and continuous learning and fun.
