Roles And Responsibilities

8+ years of specialized experience as a Registered Nurse along with 7 years of experience as an LPN on Women’s Health Center and Mother Baby combined. Responsible for Postpartum couplet care, including assessments, vital signs, medication administration, admissions, and discharges. Responsible for transitioning and monitoring newborn infants to extra uterine life. Assist doctors during various medical tests and procedures to include drawing labs in both mothers and infants, starting IV lines in both mothers and infants and assisting transport teams in stabilizing infants for transport to higher acuity facilities. Responsible for admitting labor patients, supporting them through the labor process and following their wishes in close association with the responsible provider for the delivery experience they want. Follows Hospital Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance with Federal Guidelines and The Joint Commission. Routinely reassess and prioritize patient care throughout my shift. Performed various procedures to include medication administration, monitoring IV fluids, oxygen and suction set up and use, sterile dressing changes and packing and inserting catheters. Assist in and prepare patients for C-sections during routine and emergency admissions. Circulate C-Sections during emergencies and after hours. Responsible for recovering C-Sections that were given spinal blocks. Help keeping patient and significant other informed during labor, delivery and postpartum. Provide discharge teaching to families regarding postpartum care and care of the infant. Familiar with all equipment used on the unit and help train new employees on use of equipment as well as subject matter expert on Phototherapy equipment. Head of the unit’s Resolve Through Sharing program. Responsible for training other LPN’s and RNs to perform duties outlined in job description. Responsible for updating and creating SOPs for the unit and submitting them for approval. Perform Charge Nurse Duties as assigned and work closely with Nursing Supervisor to ensure patient safety. Responsible for scheduling and call shifts of 20+ nurses. Trained as Genesis Superuser and have been using the system since April of 2021. Was the only Labor and Delivery superuser afforded the opportunity to Pay it Forward for Go Live Wave Hood/Bragg.
