Ensure qualified candidates are selected to work in the Vector Control Department and that all new staff members are properly trained and familiar with all policies, procedures, and laws.

Review & evaluate staff’s work to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and laws. Accompany staff, on occasion, into the field for training and verification that job duties are being completed properly. Assist staff with field duties during times of high demand when needed.

Prepare annual budget and capital outlay plan. Manage budget throughout the year and requisition supplies as needed.

Participate with the DHEC Bureau of Laboratories West Nile Surveillance program which includes submitting mosquitoes from trap collections and birds acceptable for testing. Lead vector-borne disease investigations when they occur.

Utilize GIS analysis & mapping to improve program effectiveness. Evaluate data that is received daily to determine program priorities.

Provide technical assistance for identification and control of vectors other than mosquitoes to citizens.

Operate various types of vehicles & equipment including ULV machines, hand sprayers, backpack blowers, dusters, hand tools, etc. which are used for the control of mosquitoes. Ensure proper maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

Compile/submit required forms to document individual and program activities. Assist with documentation for monthly and annual reports and statistics. Ensure all documentation is in order and maintained to comply with State & Federal laws.

Respond to media requests when needed. Provide educational presentations to various civic, school and community groups, etc.

Provide Emergency Preparedness planning for Vector Control.

Assist with the hiring of staff. Train and supervise seasonal, hourly field staff, and assist with training of other personnel as needed. Approve timesheets in Manager’s absence (Backup timekeeper). Oversee operations of program in Manager’s absence.

Oversee maintenance of database for spray requests and monitor One-Stop to ensure requests are assigned and addressed in a timely manner..

GIS analysis & mapping coordinator. Print out appropriate maps and reports as requested. Assist with budget preparations.

Conduct breeding site surveys. Treat sites with appropriate larvicides & adulticides or recommends necessary action. Update breeding site logs and maps. Investigate requests for spraying (ULV Calls).

Coordinates community surveys to determine level of container-breeding activity and eliminate breeding sources.

Oversee calibration of equipment and mixing/loading of pesticides. Operate various types of vehicles & equipment including ULV machines, hand sprayers, backpack blowers, dusters, hand tools, etc. which are used for the control of mosquitoes. Ensure proper maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

Perform biological surveillance in an assigned area of the county. Secure mosquito control data from light traps and rain gauges. Perform taxonomic keying of mosquitoes. Prepare and maintain statistical data for assigned area.

Ensure proper maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Conduct twice daily checks of all buildings and vehicles to ensure NPDES compliance.
