As a lifeguard for the Connecticut State Park System, I was tasked with maintaining safety and order on the beach, communicating with people, explaining the rules to them, and making sure to deescalate when people disagreed. I was also tasked with assessing risk, maintaining situational awareness to prevent emergencies, and providing advanced first aid to people in need at a fast pace. I also provided leadership, coordinated with fellow lifeguards, and communicated clearly to provide a smooth and effective response to an emergency. I was BLS, USLA, and AFA certified.
