  • Provide care for infants, including evaluation of newborn safety, administering medications and injections such as Hepatitis B, completing newborn testing, assisting with feedings, providing hygiene support, etc.

  • Utilize critical thinking skills to prioritize nursing interventions based on newborns' individual needs.
  • Notify providers of any changes in newborn status and collaborate with medical team on newborn's plan of care.
  • Administer medications and injections, such as Erythromycin and Vitamin K.
  • Educate parents on importance of newborn safety, i.e., practicing safe sleep, infant security device (HUGS), pink on badge indicating medical professionals who are safe to care for newborn, how to use bulb syringe, etc.
  • Admit well-newborn to Mother Baby Unit.

Resource RN

  • Assist new and veteran nurses with patient care, i.e., newborn baths, newborn testing, administering medications, assessing postpartum mothers, feeding newborns in the nursery, etc.
